Creating a positive social-emotional climate in early learning settings takes intention, support, and collaboration.
When children experience big emotions, challenging behaviors, or difficulty adjusting to routines, it can impact not only the child, but the entire classroom environment.
Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (ECMHC) provides a proactive and relationship-centered approach to supporting educators, strengthening classrooms, and helping children succeed.
At The Spark Center for Play & Wellness, consultation is designed to partner with early learning centers to build environments where both children and staff feel supported.
Supporting strong classrooms, confident educators, and emotionally healthy children.
What is ECMHC?
Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation is a collaborative service that supports early learning programs in promoting healthy social-emotional development and addressing behavioral challenges.

Rather than focusing only on individual children, consultation looks at the whole environment — including classroom practices, teacher-child relationships, and program-wide supports.
The goal is to strengthen the capacity of educators and staff so they feel confident in supporting all children, including those with more complex needs.
Our Approach
Our work is grounded in relationship-centered and developmentally appropriate practices. We draw from play based strategies, the Pyramid Model, and principles of social-emotional learning.
We believe that behavior is communication, and when educators are supported in understanding that communication, meaningful change can occur.
